3 Full Body Power Exercises

Coming back from some of the fitness industry’s top conferences definitely gets me excited. Not only do I get new ideas, and LOVE working with motivated fitness professionals, but when I get some surprises like this one I get inspired!

The love we got from some of the industry’s top coaches was awesome. We saw our DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training system being used to help people solve so many different fitness needs. The coolest though had to be during one presentation in particular. 

Alwyn Cosgrove is a world renown fitness professional known for his and his wife’s, Rachel, Result Fitness in Newhall, California. Not only are they fantastic coaches that have a HUGE impact upon the industry and how training facilities are ran nowadays, they also set-up an amazing culture in their gym.

We got to really experience this first hand when much of the Results staff came to our Costa Mesa DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training certification. With such industry recognition, you would think there would be a ton of ego, but it was the opposite! Every coach was open to learning and was very receptive to our ideas. You never know REALLY how much people “get it” though until you see them coach the material themselves. 

During Alwyn’s presentation at this weekend’s Perform Better Summit, I got the special treat to see how they have been using the techniques we taught. In fact, there was a specific DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training station ran by Ashley Thomas. I was already impressed with Ashley’s physical capabilities during our course, but this was about his coaching.

He KILLED IT! Now, you have to understand, in these environments there is little time to teach, you don’t know anything about the people you are working with, and I’ll be honest, there are a lot of distractions. Within EIGHT minutes of teaching, Ashley got people dialing into one of our hardest DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training movements, our Clean and Press.

 

How did he do it? He understood the value of progression. Something we try to instill in people and not only does it help us qualify people for the right exercise, but it makes them so much more successful, so much faster. Ashley walked people brilliantly through several progressions where he focused on key techniques that would ensure there success. See, that is key, doing the right exercise is great, but the nuances is where the power comes in. 

It was so good I wanted to share it with you in hopes that you see if you take the time to build a strong foundation you can do some amazing things in only a few training sessions. There is no race, but it is cool how fast people progress when you teach them the keys of good movement. Great job Ashley and the Results Team, you represent DVRT proudly!
