Does it change a darn thing? No really? Does using our DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training really change anything that could be done with a barbell, dumbbells, or kettlebells?

Even maybe, you expect me to take this post a whole different direction. However, what if SCIENCE actually backed what I am espousing.
Is there anything to DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training? Is there really science to it? Well, over the last year we had the impact of DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training being studied at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. We wanted to see if there is anything real to DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training or was it just something I fell in love with and I am bias about?
This weekend we got some of the initial results and it has exceeded my expectations! What was done, what did we see?
The study measured the effects of holding an Ultimate Sandbag in the front load position during lunging versus dumbbells in the similar rack position. The SAME weight, the SAME exercise, and the SAME number of repetitions were used in the study.
So many people would think it really wouldn’t matter, right?! I mean a tool is just a tool and weight is just weight, so does the tool really matter?
The Ultimate Sandbag Training group had a EIGHT beats per minute higher heart rate on average than the dumbbell group. That is a big difference considering the same weight and generally the same position of the weight.
As the researchers stated…”The average HR of the USB trial was significantly greater the DB trial. The estimated energy expenditure of the USB trial was significantly greater than the DB trial
This is the FIRST time we have seen the tool does change the outcome of an exercise.
While for many this may be shocking it really isn’t for those of you that have been using DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training. Most DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training drills are just different, very different from anything else. It may be hard to explain but the truth is that it really isn’t that complicated.
The Ultimate Sandbag runs across the entire body causing more of the trunk and upper body muscles to turn on, yes, even during lower body drills.
Wouldn’t that suggest the barbell would give an even better result because it is longer than the Ultimate Sandbag? Not really. Whether you are looking at the front position or Zercher hold, again, the Ultimate Sandbag shows some unique benefits. Barbells used in the front position are using sitting on the frame of the body, so the weight is more easily dispersed. In DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training the weight is more in front placing more work in the body trying to resist the pull of the USB.
In the Zercher position, the dimension of the barbell is quite small. That means the weight stays close to the center of mass of the body. The dimensional side of the Ultimate Sandbag and causes the weight to move up and makes it harder for the trunk to resist the pull of the USB forwards.
Even if this is a bit confusing, what this study is showing is that we have to appreciate the differences that the Ultimate Sandbag provides. These “small details” actually end up causing big differences in your fitness training. That is why I believe that DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training will become more and more the standard in fitness programs.
It is a beautiful thing when science begins to prove what we already knew;)
