In the fitness industry there is a popular trend of training people like athletes. I think this is a well meaning ideal for people especially in light of the old popularity of bodybuilding. However, as much as I agree with the concepts many are trying to teach with more athletic based training, the idea of training like an athlete may be a bit off.
Athletes have a lot of time to train, chances are you don’t! Athletes typically have a team of coaches, athletic trainers, doctors, physical therapists, and more, I am guessing you don’t. Athletes have their lives center around their physical training and make sacrifices to ensure they train, I am guessing it wouldn’t be as healthy for you to do the same. Athletes typically get paid to stay in shape (or other external rewards), you probably are paying to get in shape.
I am not saying you shouldn’t train to be athletic, don’t get me wrong. I do think it can set forth unrealistic expectations to people to “train like an athlete.” Being athletic means we are working towards improving your mobility, flexibility, strength, power, stability, conditioning, heck this sounds an often like an athletes training?! The difference is your needs are often much different than that of an athlete. Some of you may hate the idea of training like an athlete, you just want to feel good!
No matter your own personal goals, DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training is designed to be suitable for your level and not thrust you into an environment of fitness that isn’t safe and soundly based. Often times we think back to our days of being an athlete and think that should be our starting point, even if it has been 5, 10, or even 20 years since we were an athlete.
