This weekend started out with the always extremely fun and educational Perform Better Summits. For those not in the industry, the Perform Better conferences have become one of the premier fitness educational conferences. The line-up of speakers is like a “who’s, who” in fitness.
No, not your early Sunday morning infomercial types, but people bringing the real science of fitness to the industry. I’ve loved going to these events for our seven years. In the past few years it has been an honor to become a speaker at these events. This post isn’t about that though.
Every year I try to sit in on as many speakers I can to hear new ideas, or sometimes just new ways of thinking about old ones. This year was no exception. My two AH-HA moments came during the great presentations by renown experts, Gray Cook and Alwyn Cosgrove. Both are two top industry pros and were presenting on completely different topics!
Gray was presenting on “Balance, Posture, and Motor Control” while Alwyn presented on “Metabolic Resistance Training”. Seemingly two VERY different topics, but not so fast! As I listened intently to both I started to make a really interesting connection.
First was Gray when he said something very intriguing that I think got overlooked. He spoke about having posture under load. Why he liked things like loaded carries as an assessment just as much as an exercise. Being able to maintain posture during movement was something he said was very important, hmmm, sound familiar?
Gray Cook having some attendees work through some posture under load training with Ultimate Sandbag farmer’s walks.
Then Alwyn was talking about how things like DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training and TRX training were the future of fitness because they were “alive and asymmetrical”. As I listened to Alwyn explain the REAL science of fat loss, I began to notice a connection.
Why is “alive and asymmetrical” training so important to fat loss? Then it hit me! It is really trying to maintain posture under load!!!
Alwyn Cosgrove talking about how DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training is part of the future of fitness!
It became so obvious then why we are seeing the incredible changes at the rate we do with DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training. If we can combine elements from corrective exercise with metabolic (conditioning) training then we have something super unique. Something that can improve the way you move and feel while also making you leaner and more fit?
Before, I just hadn’t had the right terminology, but the idea of maintaining posture under load made so much sense. When we change how you hold the Ultimate Sandbag, how you stand when you lift the Ultimate Sandbag, when we change how the Ultimate Sandbag moves against you, what does it do? It all challenges how you are able to maintain posture under load!
That is why so many fitness programs lack the efficiency DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training provides. Most fitness programs challenge you just via load which is actually much easier to maintain your posture because you typically are working from your strongest positions. That is why we see traditionally “strong” people struggle so much when they first enter DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training. They aren’t use to maintaining their posture under different conditions that make the work so much more stressful even though it is very light!
When I approached Alwyn with this thought process I could see the wheels really turning. Connecting the world of corrective exercise to fat loss to high performance makes sense, but we didn’t really know how or have the right tools before! However, you can see in DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training workouts like the one above, that we do have both! The tool and the method of doing so!
This explains why in research studies we are seeing the Ultimate Sandbag outperform many of the “traditional” gym tools. Things are changing and we are going to help you stay at the forefront of the changing landscape of REAL fitness!
When you perform your DVRT Ultimate Sandbag workouts, don’t think about just lifting the weight, think about how you move with it! Think of all the little nuances we give you as they will make all the difference in the results you see!
