2014-01-1
Here is the New Year, full of promise and great hope. Many well meaning resolutions have been made and some probably already broken! Last night as Jessica and I were having our New Year’s celebration, she asked me something I don’t think she has in six years, “what are your resolutions?”
Typically, I am not a resolutions type of guy. Not because I think of myself as “too good” for them, but I have goals all year, every year that I am striving to achieve. I guess that is one thing we can do to better our resolutions is to think of them as goals. After all, we all know that the majority of resolutions fail every year.
Anyways, I had to really think. Unlike most years, I hadn’t really game planned for 2014 yet. To be honest, most of my December where I usually try to think of the upcoming year was taken up by family things. Situations that really seemed to trump my usual business or fitness goals that I tend to prioritize.
Thinking about it, I began to see I had thought about my resolutions and didn’t even realize it. They were just different this year and maybe because I didn’t really think about them, that means they are already engrained in my habits.
For myself, it meant placing more of a focus on the well-being and being present with my family. Enjoying spending time doing the little things and not so worried about the things that had to get done. Not to say that my work would get lost, but the understanding that it will get done and with the motivation of something bigger, like my family, it will probably get done at even a higher level.
This whole thought process got to me thinking about my goals for DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training as well. I have long talked about our DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training being more than a sandbag, and even more than just another fitness program. How well though have we done in really connecting with all of you in showing how and why we believe this truth?
That is a big one for us, learning how to connect better with YOU! Those that put the trust in us to help improve your life through greater health and fitness. Going on our NINETH year, hard to believe, of DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training I have learned that the best way to share with you the how’s and why’s is to continue to be the example in which we lead by.
Doing so doesn’t just mean showing you some great exercises, or workout programs, but also showing you how we integrate into our own lives and what it does for us! After all, the real reason that Jessica, myself, fitness professionals, and REAL people believe in DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training is because of how it makes their lives better.
One of the most real things about life is that it isn’t always great. Often the most rewarding times are those that we conquer major obstacles, sometimes those that seem overwhelming. It is hard to believe that fitness and DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training can help, but trust me, it does.
Just this past December I have found this to be true. As I wrote previously, our oldest dog had a severe stroke. That meant very little sleep to me and lots of time devoted to her attention. Not surprisingly, a lack of sleep doesn’t do a body good!
I found my spinal stenosis, my neck fusion, not being subtle in there existence. All of these things would have been an easy out for me to let things get crappy really fast. When you feel like crap it isn’t difficult to let it snowball. Often it would be followed by bad eating habits, no exercise, etc.
For myself, I decided to use fitness as an outlet. I didn’t have a lot in me to give to my DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training workouts, but I also knew, I didn’t have to! All I had to do was be consistent and focused, even if it was few exercises and a little bit of time.
I wasn’t using DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training to achieve some lofty fitness goal. Instead, I was using it as a means to stay positive, to have the energy to do the things that were important, and keep with my personal goal of being a healthy example of DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training.
As time has passed over the month, things have gotten better. I find a lot of it due to the fact that I used my fitness program for something other than getting stronger, or losing weight. It was a means for something much bigger and better. In fact, it has helped me develop a strategy for my goals of 2014 which is finding a balance between my fitness, business, and family goals.
In the end, I think that is what I want DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training to be about. Allowing some of you to find the same success, not just in fitness, but in the things in your life most important to you! I look forward to sharing these things with you in 2014!
