One Exercise Total Core Training

When we talk about core training it reminds me of the famous John Belushi Saturday Night Live skit of the Olympia Restaurant where customers can only get cheeseburgers, chips, and a Pepsi. Okay, Jessica tells me I am BADLY dating myself, but the skit gave us the infamous “cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger” line.

While my comparison might be outdated, you can’t help but agree that when it comes to training, it often sounds like, core, core, and core. There is good reason though!

Everything works better when you activate your core and not just those awesome mirror muscles. The deep muscles of the core that also give us reactive stability. You know, like that multifidus, transverse abdominis, pelvic floor, you know, the standard Muscle & Fitness muscles;)

Smart core training realizes that we want to teach the body not to just plank, but to possess this reflexive strength and stability. That means we have to learn how to integrate the body smarter and to create stability for our body when we work in different positions, postures, and planes of motions.

For those of you that have been with our DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training for some time know that we have no shortage of awesome core exercises. You also know though that we aren’t just about doing random work, but rather, building layers of progression to more meaningful movements.

Today’s DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training core exercise is about building real world core stability as we begin to integrate more complex motions. Don’t be fooled though, this drill can be used for a variety of means from warm-up to prime your body, or as an smart/effective conditioning drill.

Best of all there is science to it! It combines what leading expert, Dr. Stuart McGill, call proximal stability to create distal mobility. Basically, if you get stronger core activation your extremities work better.

We also combine research that shows integrating the lats and shoulders into a core movement makes it so much more effective. So, enjoy this DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training complex and see how it challenges and improves your movement at once!
