Description
Admittedly, I was hesitant to get into kettlebells back in 2001. It was only at the urging of a mentor of mine at the time that I decided to get my first kettlebell. When I began working with the kettlebell and following along with a VHS tape (yes, a VHS tape!), I was instantly sold! It wasn’t that kettlebells were “hardcore” or had “magical” powers; rather, I could immediately see how this simple tool could address so many of my clients’ goals while meeting the needs I identified as a coach.
My first kettlebell certification back in 2003!!
The idea that kettlebells could serve as a vehicle to teach better movement became a mantra I’ve followed for over 20 years of coaching, training, and writing about kettlebell training. I feel humbled to have taught kettlebell certifications for 19 years in diverse settings, from hospital wellness centers and Division I college strength programs to the U.S. Marines—and even in Russia itself (given the kettlebell’s supposed origins, that was a surreal experience!).
In 2019, Physical Therapist Jessica Bento and I launched the Progressive Kettlebell Movement (PKM) system. Our mission was to bridge the extremes in the kettlebell world. On one side, there were those who rigidly adhered to a handful of foundational movements. On the other, there were professionals pushing wild, unrestricted exercises, often missing the real value of the kettlebell.
The kettlebell’s versatility, affordability, and minimal space requirements make it a phenomenal tool for results-driven fitness. When used correctly, it can alleviate musculoskeletal pain (1), improve aerobic capacity (2), and build strength comparable to weightlifting and powerlifting(3,4).
We’re thrilled to offer our PKM program as an online masterclass, starting Tuesday, January 14th. For just $99, you’ll receive six weeks of live instruction, early bird pricing, and a free PKM Swing Course (a $55 value). This course is approved by NASM for 10 contact hours or 1.0 CEUs. Join us to revolutionize your approach to kettlebell training!
Week 1: Learn how to maximize the unique capabilities of the kettlebell to increase greater core stability and mobility for greater performance and resilience.
Week 2: Discover the lower body exercises that you NEED to master before moving on to popular exercises like swings as well as how to reduce low back and knee pain issues.
Week 3: Understand why many kettlebell solutions for shoulder issues aren’t ideal and how to use the science of functional training to build greater shoulder mobility, stability, and strength where the kettlebell becomes the best tool.
Week 4: Learn how kettlebells can be an essential tool in developing one of the most overlooked movement patterns of rotation and locomotion. See how this will improve many other kettlebell and training qualities in the gym.
Week 5: Find out how to know when someone is ready to perform the kettlebell swing and the key exercises that should be the foundation (the deadlift is just the start to a MUCH bigger system).
Week 6: Discover how to avoid the common mistakes in kettlebell programming, how to use kettlebells in your workout programs to solve client goals, and how to adapt them more effectively in group training.
