It has become one of my favorite and one our most popular DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training workouts! However, when DVRT Master Chief, Troy Anderson, gave me his Silverback workout I at first chuckled. I didn’t know the idea of becoming a Silverback would be something that people would relate to, that is until Jessica quickly said, “I’m going to do THAT today!” The more I thought about it, the more I fell in love with the idea of becoming the strongest, most powerful, and fit versions of ourselves. I mean, what part of that DOESN’T sound awesome!
The Silverback workout looks easy when you first see it (you can read about it HERE), but as DVRT Instructor, Raymond Lee said, “…I was just too gassed out. It seems easy on the paper, but hard in reality.
One of the things I really love about the Silverback workout was that it allowed people to feel the weight difference in heavier Ultimate Sandbags, but not just as a replacement for the classic barbell exercises.
There might be a thought that we don’t use heavy weights in DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training. That is a HUGE misconception usually caused by a few different things.
1. Ultimate Sandbag weights always appear lighter!
Let’s face it, saying you got buried by an 80 pound Burly Ultimate Sandbag may not get the “bro love” that pulling 405 on the barbell may get on social media. However, if you are interested in getting really strong in and out of the gym, you won’t care. I’ve had top athletes and strength coaches find 130 pound Ultimate Sandbags to be the most brutal (of course in a fun way) workout they have ever performed! In fact, one of the most popular Strength Coaches in the industry now has only up to an 80 pound bag!
Heavy becomes a relative thing to the type of DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training exercise you are performing, the size of Ultimate Sandbag, and the program itself! That is why guys, if you can perform the Silverback workouts with an 80, 100, or 120 pound Burly Ultimate Sandbag you are well on you way to develop serious real world strength. Ladies, a 60 pound Strength, 60 pound Burly, or even an 80 pound Burly Ultimate Sandbag shows that women aren’t afraid of building the empowering strength that comes with this type of training.
2. Our DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training movements are different!
Yes, we squat, but our squats are different. We press, but our presses our different. Whether it is how we hold the Ultimate Sandbag during classic exercises like squats, presses, cleans, rows, etc, or the accuracy of movement needed to do these movements REALLY well, DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training movements are really different than anything else! When you start to then progress to the movement based strength drills that are part of our DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training system, you start to see things in a very different light. You don’t see strength or fitness quite the same way. Rotational Lunges, Cyclones, Lateral Drags anyone?
3. We do more than 1 rep!
Does lifting a weight for 1 rep make you strong? Well, guess it depends on what you mean by “strong”? DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training is not meant to make you a Powerlifter, but unleash your inner athleticism. Guess what, most sports don’t rely on 1 rep and neither does life!
This doesn’t mean crazy, random conditioning workouts are the answer. We often build specific “layers” in our DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training workouts that build strength from many different angles. In fact, renown Strength Coach, Robert Dos Remedies, considers power-endurance and work capacity as the TWO most important aspects of both performance and fitness. So, doing a weight once is cool, but being able to repeat a hard effort when you are taxed, when things aren’t perfect, means so much more.
Coach Dos practices what he preaches!!
Guess what? These are all things that the Ultimate Sandbag workouts do for you! That is why I am excited to bring you the second workout in the Silverback series.
1: Rear Step Deadlift per side
2: Rotational Rows per side
3: Squat to Press
4: Rotational Lunge
Finish with 45 seconds of Front Loaded Marching, Aim for 3-4 rounds
Does this stuff really work though?
When we got this email from DVRT instructor, Pete Aronis, we were just as excited to read about how DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training is making people better at things they don’t even practice in the gym!
“I wanted to share this with you guys at Ultimate Sandbag, my client Lydia( also a trainer) had a personal best 2.5 months ago deadlifting 170lbs. When we started training 2.5 months ago i promised her, she would be the strongest shes ever been, because i am gonna bulletproof her leaks with sandbag training. 90% of her training was done with Ultimate Sandbags, 2.5 months later she deadlifted 185lbs( she only weighs 125lbs).”
Great job guys!!!! Now what can YOU accomplish?! Try these two Silverback DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training workouts and find out!
