This especially true when it comes to core training! While working with a coach recently, I saw the light bulb go off in his head (which is pretty cool). He stopped our session and said, “it is ALL about pelvic control isn’t it?!” Absolutely, I replied. Why is this so important? This doesn’t sound like some cool six pack ab training does it?
That is because REAL core training is about learning how to control you pelvis as we move. We’ve talked in our Ultimate Sandbag Training blogs time and time again that the current research is showing that our core is designed more to RESIST forces than anything else.
It is this reason that exercises like planks are important, but it is more important that you don’t STOP there! The REAL goal is to learn to control our pelvis in all sorts of movements and positions.
This is critical because instability at the pelvis and core leads to dysfunction, weakness, and lack of movement in the legs, upper body, and low back. Pretty important right? So, core training is not about just torching your abs, but learning how to use them the right way to control movement.
