I am not gonna lie, there are days that even I have doubt if we are doing the right thing. It isn’t though I am questioning if DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training is a great system, if it is as powerful as we claim, but I do wonder if it is what people want.
I’ve never been on a mission to get people to do “sandbag training”. Heck, I don’t even know what that means. The goal has always been to educate people about how their body works. So, how could I ever question if what we were doing with DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training was right for people?
We live in a tough age for fitness. There are so many “things” going on that offer both great opportunity to get better and an equally powerful opportunity to go down a road of basically nonsense. While most people believe that I would be against anything that wasn’t DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training related, that isn’t the case.
I don’t look at the tool or even the exercise someone is showing first. My judgement comes from what they describe the purpose and the intent to be. In other words, WHY am I wanting to do this? Is it JUST another “glute”, “core”, “chest”, or even “functional” exercise? After all, it is easy to sit back even for ten minutes on social media and get new exercises. I want to know if people are offering better solutions.
Is a tool just a tool? Master craftsmen/women are very particular about their tools, should we in fitness?
However, I know I am in the minority when it comes to such a though process. After all, people judge our DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training on the implement first, exercise second, and often the intent last! You can imagine how discouraging that can really be when people misunderstand your whole purpose to be begin with.
Fortunately, that doubt doesn’t seem too long. Not because I get memes of inspiration or even get a great new self-help book. Instead, when I go to teach our industry what DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training, it is for me just as it is for the coaches.
This past weekend’s Perform Better Summit in Chicago was a great example. The coaches that come to these events are definitely in the top 10% of our industry. Just by coming to continuing education they are showing they are determined to raise the standard in our industry. Being around so many other great professionals from so many disciplines is another.
I feel very lucky that our DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training gets such an amazing platform to work with these great professionals. It is my goal to give them something they can immediately use Monday morning and make a real impact on their clients.
Even knowing how great experience this is, every once in awhile I am even blown away by what happens. It happened this time as I began to walk around the room as the coaches were practicing some drills from our “Better Shoulders, Knees, & Low Backs” presentation. While watching the attendees work on their squats I passed a group that stopped me.
“She had her moment!” one of the attendees yelled out to me.
“Good or bad moment”, I replied.
Looking at the incredible smile on this woman’s face, I quickly realized good, but I had no idea HOW good! Maryanne shared with me that being in her 60’s, she developed such horrible knee pain not only could she not squat, but her doctors were telling her to get a knee replacement.
I know our DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training system is powerful, but what she told me next actually got me a bit choked up. As her eyes grew bigger and she just couldn’t stop smiling, she told me this was the FIRST time in years she could not only squat, but do so PAIN FREE!!!!
People often misunderstand why this is so impactful to people. Maryanne didn’t care about having “jacked” legs by squatting again. She felt empowered, she felt freedom, most of all she felt hope. That is the hope that she may (and she still might I can’t solve all problems) not need surgery. She may be able to play with her grandkids and be a role model for her clients.
Maryanne thanked me for showing her these techniques. I told her I had to thank her! I realize that DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training is so much more than an exercise program, it is a way we can transform people’s lives. She gave me that inspiration and I know if I ever tend to doubt if our direction is the right direction, I’ll think of her!
