I have to keep bringing it up, not because I think we are trying to be “hardcore”. In fact, if working with firefighters, police departments, and military units have taught me ANYTHING is that people are just people. That our DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training is set to meet where people are at, not to beat them up.
I do like to bring up our work with different tactical programs because when I think how DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training HAS to apply to real world strength training there are few better examples than what these brave men and women face every day.
That is why I love that DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training gives them a special edge. What do I mean? For one, ANYONE can start learning better movement skills. Which is essential because it doesn’t matter if you are working with a department, a sports team, or trying to be the best parent you can be, there is only ONE ability that REALLY counts and that’s availability.
Being hurt, achy, too sore too move just doesn’t cut it when it comes to real life strength. Funny how in 2017 we still justify the effectiveness of a fitness program by how bad we end up feeling from it! Trust me, we train hard in DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training, but we do so with a greater purpose in mind, with intent, and with building a smarter, not just a better body in mind.
That’s why when I asked firefighter captain, Jordan Ponder, what makes DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training so essential for the work they do in the field I was really blown away by his response. Especially when he put it in a cool video format!
Dealing with movement patterns, directions, loading the body, and connecting the body in ways we move in real life and they do on the job is really what we mean with functional training and DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training.
Many people think we JUST want you to get you to use a sandbag. Nope! We know from over a decade of educating people how to use DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training to get crazy fast results, it is the INTENT of what you do with the Ultimate Sandbag that gives you power.
Like Jordan shows in some of these videos, it can be simple from teaching how to connect the core better on pulling apart the Ultimate Sandbag in Dead Bugs to getting feedback on how to hinge and not squat during your deadlift while engaging the important lats to not hurt your low back, to more dynamic actions because life doesn’t happen just up and down as he shows a clean and forward step press. Something that firefighters, heck, we all do without thinking about it all the time.
If we want to truly develop strength for real life, then we have to think about what lessons our equipment, exercises, and workouts and teaching us about better movement. “Sandbag training” shouldn’t be about filling in the holes of what you do, but rather, if you used with the right purpose can accomplish so much more in teaching all of us how to perform best not just in the gym, but out of it as well!
