It is a scary thing for anyone. To put yourself out there, to expose yourself, to know for sure. What am I talking about? I am referring to the feeling that many have when they have to put their fitness on the line. After all, there is no shortage of those talking about workouts, what being fit means, and so much more.
How do you know? I mean honestly, what measures are you using to seeing if your fitness program is really working?
At DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training we created some fitness standards. Not just to beat you up, not to abuse you, but to test many of the qualities that make up fitness, strength, power, endurance, mobility, and technical proficiency.
Some of rolled their eyes at some of the challenge DVRT Ultimate Sandbag workouts. They think such things are silly! Hmmm, I find it “interesting” that these are the same people that don’t like to be accountable for their own fitness. If those that are in the fitness industry can’t lead by example, how do we expect others to follow our lead?
Probably the DVRT Ultimate Sandbag workout challenge that has really grabbed people’s attention is that darn Clean and Press test. It never ceases to amaze me what a simple workout challenge does to people’s moods, attitude, and overall demeanor. Why do people get so bent out of shape over something so simple?
I believe it is really because it exposes them. Have you really been training, or just doing a little something here or there? Have you really been addressing your flexibility, mobility, and weaknesses or are you spending more time on the internet debating different merits of various programs? You see my point, we learn more by doing than we can ever JUST by reading or debating.
Recently DVRT Master, Troy Anderson (Creator of Alpha Kettlebell), said something that really got me. He said if people just changed the word “challenge” with test then you may see it differently. It is pretty true, a test is done to see if you have comprehension. In this case physical comprehension. Can you move well? Can you problem solve? Can you program?
If you can answer these questions you can pass any reasonable fitness challenge including our DVRT Clean and Press.
