How To Build Smarter Workouts For The New Year

We all know that as the holidays start to pass us and the focus becomes on 2025 (crazy right?!)  that many resolutions about improving one’s fitness starts to pop-up. Unfortunately, this also the time of year we hear of sad stats like only 10% of people that start with New Year’s resolution fitness goals actually are successful long-term.

new year's fitness goals

For us, that isn’t an indictment of people as much as it is the information out there how to get fit in smarter ways. Most people are balancing A LOT on their plates so having workouts that can not only address all their goals (not just fat loss or building muscle, but improving strength, stability, and mobility is important as well) in a time efficient manner is key.

That is why we do focus on workouts that we share with DVRT. I don’t know what these workouts don’t offer because some of the best parts are done in really subtle ways. For example, you may not think much of it when we tell you to hold an Ultimate Sandbag in the front loaded position and create tension against it when you squat. However, that can make all the difference in doing a deep squat that feels really good, like you are working the legs big time compared to having low back and/or knee pain while squatting.

Making fitness seem accessible is accomplished by taking the sincere of what we know about human movement but make it really tangible for anyone to access. For example, we know that rotary stability and pelvic control are really key for helping produce a strong lower body, optimizing the glutes, and building both knee and low back health. This isn’t what I tell people though.

Instead, I like to have people learn how taking two kettlebells and being deliberate how we hold them and build up to sliding back on a deadlift makes them work really hard in focusing on how they use their feet and keeping their focus on the grip of the kettlebells. They FEEL a lot of work, but we are accomplishing ALL the goals we just mentioned. People start to experience the difference in training smarter without becoming totally overwhelmed by all the science.

What kettlebells and Ultimate Sandbags (along with other key pieces like suspension trainers, gliders, and bands) allow for us is all to train the body in unique ways that provide a reasonable challenge, help people rediscover how to use their bodies optimally, and accomplish SOOOO many goals at once.

This allows us to help people see that you don’t have to choose between getting learner, moving better, building muscle, or helping your achy shoulders, knees, and/or low back. It isn’t about just using such tools like Ultimate Sandbags and kettlebells, but the purpose and intention we put behind their use! When you do so, you get workouts that can keep people going well beyond just those initial weeks of New Year’s. That is what we are all about, making great fitness accessible and also enjoyable enough to become a lifetime habit that you experience great benefits from.
