Best Ultimate Sandbag Exercises for Core Strength

sandbag workout

Yesterday we released a great new program. Ian Vaughn’s DVRT for Obstacle Course Racing represents really what we want DVRT to be all about. A fitness and strength training philosophy that applies to the real world.

As I get older, I care honestly less and less about what I lift in the gym, but more about how I perform in the real world. I don’t want to have to “waddle” over somewhere because I am either hurting or so stiff from my training that a basic task seems like a monumental effort.

A big part of that is about teaching our bodies to work smarter. Now, most of you know that I have spent over the past decade teaching how DVRT Ultimate Sandbag exercises do just that! Make your body smarter, more resilient, and real world strong.

What some of you may not know is that I still teach things like kettlebells. Yes, this past weekend I taught a kettlebell certification, with a large focus on how we teach Ultimate Sandbag exercises.

Sure, I still used some of the great concepts from kettlebells that gave me inspiration for DVRT, but we spent a large time focusing on three important ideas…..

-Using the ground with our feet and hands.

-Connecting the lats/core/glutes.

-Using cross patterns to develop strength.

These are three really important concepts that not only apply to Ultimate Sandbag exercises, but pretty much any form of strength training you can do.

The result of teaching these ideas? People improved SO fast and felt so much stronger in doing so! It almost seems like magic, but in reality, it is just using the body as it is designed to move.

That is why when we do Ultimate Sandbag exercises, it just isn’t the exercise, but how we think about performing the movement. Using the ground, natural connections of our body, and focusing on movement, not just muscles. What you end up with is fitness that really transfers to life in so many ways. From making you feel better to looking better.

Of course though it requires you to focus, be thoughtful, and willing to be different than most people in the gym. How so? Check out how DVRT Master, Greg Gergely Perlaki, shows how we can use DVRT concepts to create a series of Ultimate Sandbag exercise that will transform how you think about your core and overall real world fitness!
