There is a point where you have to make that decision. It isn’t an easy one, you have to look in and the mirror and decide. Do you want to do something you believe in, something you think really makes a difference, something that you know won’t be easy, or you can take a different road.
It would be easy, pandering to people is always well received. Change though isn’t easy. Change requires breaking down some strong walls, it makes people decide not just if they like your ideas, but you as a person. Making people change is THE hardest thing to ask a person to do.
Our path with DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training could be easy. Just tell people to deadlift, to squat, row, and run with the Ultimate Sandbag would be easy. Not paying attention to why, how, and just let people “do stuff” would be the road without much pain at all. We chose NOT to follow this road because it isn’t what I saw DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training being about.
Just the other day a national magazine shot over to me a spread of “sandbag exercises” that they took from some of our programs. I told them “I can’t share that!” They were shocked! “Why not?” The form was wrong, the techniques were questionable at best, and it just didn’t represent what we want DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training to be about! Yes, it featured the Ultimate Sandbag, but that isn’t what we chose to be about.
“Who cares, just share it, good press is better than no press” was their response.
We will take no press then! Standing for what you believe in can be painful, but then you go back to that mirror. What person do you want to see in that mirror? Someone you can be proud of, someone you can feel like they stand up for what is right? It may sound dramatic to some of you, but I know you have been there.
Each day we all get opportunities to make these tough decisions. The one’s we make speak volumes about who we really are as individuals. I don’t share such experiences with you because I want you to “rah, rah”, but rather because I want you to know we are dedicated, determined, and most importantly driven by the ideals that DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training is something stronger than a few exercises, some variety in working out, or a “bag with handles.” We know because we have seen it, that it can be a powerful life changer. That is why we are proud when people like Ryan Hence who attended a DVRT workshop, sees the same in us. This great video he made shows the essence of DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training. Not that he did just “cool” exercises, but adhered to the idea of strength, flow, movement, endurance, and athleticism. THAT is DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training.
