How We Combine Conditioning & Stability Training

conditioning

This past weekend was the first time in 2 years I got to present again at a national conference. It was great to be back in front of people teaching and sharing better ways to get results with clients and even their own training. Every time I have some goals that I want to achieve in what I am teaching because you can’t solve every question and issue in 75 minutes.

That is why I wanted to focus on what people don’t realize what good functional training can accomplish in making our training more efficient and getting superior results. One of the common misconceptions is that training qualities like stability, mobility, power, strength, and metabolic conditioning are all separate. The example people use is often one of “buckets”.  The goal is to make sure each part of your training can fill up these buckets.

The intention is good, we want to make sure we address all these qualities in training, but the reality is something else. The truth is that these qualities are all interrelated and our programs should show that relationship. Coach Cari Satre shows how we apply these concepts in a practical DVRT workout…

This may not be the starting point for some, but it shows where we want to go with our training with a balance of movement patterns, positions of load, and planes of motion.

Such type of training makes our training more efficient and helps us overcome some common challenges like time to train, space, and even how much equipment we need!

Complexes where we don’t hammer just one pattern and move in more different, but purposeful ways can make our training so much smarter!

Why don’t most people train this way if it is so effective? Well, it requires us to have a deeper understanding of movement training and how our bodies function. Some of the most common mistakes is that people DO think these qualities are separate, others get stuck in programming muscles still, and they don’t realize how using concepts like load position, body position, and planes of motion the same as we would weight or reps makes our training not different, but better!

Want to find out how we put all of this into a dynamic program? Cari has put together an exciting new 6 month DVRT workout program that takes you from foundations to advanced functional training. Check it out for 30% off (under $15) with code “metabolic” HERE
